I mean you are lucky to find a fully populated neighbourhood there. So I could see how it would be difficult for one area of the city to be just for gay people, because it is so fractured. There was something fractured about the city, it didn't seem like an entirely populated area, you can feel the isolation/ lack of people in some parts. I've been to Detroit a bunch of times, I'm from Ontario, Canada.

In Detroit you have city blocks that are almost completely abandoned, which makes having a centralized gay or any location hard because everyone is redirected to different parts of the city because of the abandonment / space between them.

Los Angeles doesn't have pockets of abandonment like Detroit does, the city all flows with people occupying the majority of residential areas. I've had some close calls of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Be careful and don't let your guard down. Most of these bars I mentioned are in the bad areas. But those bars should all have Facebook pages and websites.Īdvice if visiting Detroit (and any major city) is to pay attention to your surroundings. This was about 10 years ago though, when I was in high school still. Gold Coast is a strip club most dancers are straight males but they're fun to look at. Menjos was my favorite and they're good for Thursday nights. Gigi's is fun and has themed nights it is the place to go for "Go-go boys". The bars I use to frequent were Gigi's, Menjos, and Gold Coast. This little strip is where they have Gay Pride usually and a gay center.

Go figure! A decent but small bar in Ferndale is "Soho" it's a no frills but laid back bar environment. The area of Metro Detroit that is gay friendly and the "gayborhood" is Ferndale and Royal Oak is also very gay friendly too! In Ferndale a gay friendly restaurant I liked was Como's and it got the nickname Como's for Homos. I'm surprised no one has posted that actually lives or lived in Detroit!!
